SUMMARY

Several Siemens products (optionally) offer the use of WibuKey Dongles [1] for licensing. According to a recent publication by WIBU Systems (WIBU-94453 at [2]), the Windows device driver for these Dongles contains vulnerabilities as listed below.

WIBU Systems has released a new version for WibuKey for Windows. Siemens recommends to update this device driver on affected Windows client installations, where WibuKey Dongles are used. See also the chapter "Additional Information" for more details.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

PSS(R)SINCAL is a simulation software for electric and pipe networks.

Siemens License Server (SLS) is the central server application that supports Siemens Advanced Licensing Technology (SALT) as used by various Siemens product families, e.g. by EDA and PLM products. SLS includes the FlexNet License Manager Daemon (lmgrd), the Siemens (saltd) vendor daemon and various utilities.

Vulnerability CVE-2024-45181

An issue was discovered in WibuKey64.sys in WIBU-SYSTEMS WibuKey before v6.70 and fixed in v.6.70. An improper bounds check allows crafted packets to cause an arbitrary address write, resulting in kernel memory corruption.

Beyond the affected Siemens client applications listed above, there is a range of Siemens EDA/DISW client applications, that also support the use of WibuKey Dongles as part of the Siemens Advanced Licensing Technology (SALT).

Siemens recommends to update the driver "WibuKey Runtime for Windows" to V6.70 or later version on all Windows clients, where WibuKey Dongles are used. The latest version of the driver can be downloaded from the WIBU Systems website [3].
